Remember my ST4S being a bit of a job. I Think I had to take the rear shock out to get the header out but memory fails. I do remember having to remove the left side footpeg hanger (cant remember if rider or passenger and not with bike but it should be obvious) and the lower shock mounting bolt and twisting the header to the left to get it out through the hole in the swingarm - its a tight squeeze.
Good Luck

Btw, my wife suggest you get off the bike and you may find access a bit easier. ;-)

I am really struggling to access the nut on the right hand side ( as you sit on the bike) of the collar that holds the exhaust onto the rear cylinder. Any ideas greatfully appreciated
Thanks
