Stop in Little Switzerland, NC and get an ice cream.
Nearby is 226 / 226A loop that will take you off the BRP and then back on. Peg scrapping curves, use caution.
Stop and eat at the Mt. Pisgah Inn.
Be sure and get a window table.
Almost any "park" along the BRP is worth a stop at least once.
