Due to bloody hot weather this Summer in Oz, I bought (after some research) a Dainese Air-Frame jacket and could not be happier with it. Less protection than leather sure but getting cooked while riding has it's risks too. 1st ride of any distance was 400kms in 39 degress C, and me in a Tee shirt + Air-frame. And yes I touched the high triple digits on the speedo repeatedly, beautiful. Better if zipped to the pants in a slide,........ but who's going to come off anyway? Ha.

I agree - leather is the best protection. And leather or textile, it is imperative that the fit be good - don't want armor rolling into an unprotected position. I usually wear perforated leather agvsport jacket in summer, comfortable and good protection (w matching pants). Have worn them on the track at mid Ohio all day, and no issues. Winter gets non-perf, which breaks the wind (no pun intended) well. As for textile, my only experience is Olympia (airglide) and Tourmaster (air intake). Both are comfortable, but I think the Tourmaster is actually more fitted, and the shoulder and elbow areas feel more sturdy. I went over a guardrail wearing the Tourmaster at about 35 mph trying to negotiate a gravely blind corner. Got up and rode the bike home with a broken mirror, bent brake pedal and nasty scrape on the tank and front fork. I was a bit sore, but the armor (and Arai) did their jobs. Point being, a snug fit helps when ya need protection. Were it sliding on the street, a different story no doubt. Get a good fit! Barry '06 ST3S ABS '01 S4 916 |

I have a Fieldsheer Perforated leather jacket. Cools pretty good except at stop lights. :) I crashed in it, with no rash nor upper body discomfort. It was a deer assisted high side a 70mph. I witnessed a friend crash at a much slower rate, parking lot wheelie, and he busted two ribs and dislocated his shoulder. He was wearing a textile jacket with armor but even before the crash I remember thinking, that's a flimsy jacket. I just found a great deal on a Dianese Zen perforated leather jacket. I really like it and hope I will not be giving a crash test result on it.... I say, get a leather perforated jacket. There is nothing to equal the protection of leather. I don't give a cat nor a rat's ass what anyone else thinks. ;) Robert McNabb Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia 99 ST4 Red 2003 ST4s Red https://www.facebook.com/BlackHorseLogging From: RC <ST4s@verizon.net> To: st2_owners@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, April 26, 2013 12:46 PM Subject: [DucatiST] Summer jackets, ventilated It will soon be hotter than hell in Texas and my old Vanson textile jacket is showing its age. Does anyone care to recommend your favorite hot weather jacket? Frank Flower Mound TX |
