Was it steel or alloy? Does your clutch basket have square or rounded bottoms to the slots? The extra plate's tabs should snug into the rounded bottoms of the OEM basket, and it certainly works the same with some after-market baskets like my Charlie/ProCutting one. If the tabs bed in slightly with use, the clearance opens up and the clutch starts knocking again. I made a thin shim to re-establish the half-mil nip, or you could simply look for a thicker friction plate.
