NickW,
I looked back and indeed it was you that first advertised this modification. Thank you for this as I have put many miles on my Duc and have really enjoyed this mod. I see you didn't make a comment about champhering the edges. For some reason I only needed one spare friction plate for mine to work. With it in the bottom of the basket I had more than .020" to the back side of the first steel clutch plate (more like .040") so I champhered the tang edges until I got .020" or a little less. It was a win win for me because it gives the tangs of the bottom friction plate more contact area which helps keep it from trying to move with the clutch pulled in. I would guess that Filip started with less than .020" and normal bedding with the clutch pulled in took the the first steel clutch plate to zero clearance and it started riding on the inner hub like a normal setup; hence, the noise came back and the tangs started to beat against the basket again.

Randy,
I can't remember making any comment on the fit of the tangs in the slots, but chamfering the edges to suit the radius of the slots sounds worthwhile, so long as they don't then completely bottom and start flapping around like Filip's did. As I mentioned, there was certainly some bedding-in on mine, but that might have been into the alloy basket rather than the steel tangs. Perhaps I'll go in and inspect it when I'm back at home in June.
