Seeing as how Ducati used bevel drives early on ;) I have a good picture of "big bevel drives" in the video.
I did ask the engineer about the wear on them since they are exposed and it seems they hang together for a good
while even with wear. The gear teeth do look a bit pointed in the close up. The train is actually pulling/pushing more
weight up the mountain now than it did with empty log bunk cars back in the day. Of course coming off the
mountain with a load was all braking since a Steam engine gives no engine braking. Now, had I been round back
then and able to invent a steam jake brake. I might have been rich...
