The thing about the mosfet regulators is what i've heard also. What type did you use? Fh008 is used in cbr600's but these don't have cables connected, only connectors.

I agree with all of that, except the part that says after 99 it's all good. Regulators fail. I just replaced my 05' 999S regulator last week, at 6K miles. Same signs as my 98' ST2. Low voltage and high voltage dips and spikes; then it started going 15 volts + more often when it was warm... The 999 has the three phase, and supposedly is one of the better ones out there. I replaced it with a zx-6r regulator (mosfet). Working great now.
I cut out all the connectors and soldered them up. I wanted to relocate it, but there is no damn room anywhere on that bike.
If it were me; read up on mosfet type regulators... Find other people have used for your model, and where they mounted it. Change it out, cut out all the connectors, solder it up... Ride on. YMMV
