col. blood 'n I were scouting the marlington area with intent to
setting up the first east coast gathering. I was riding the
multistrada I used to do the Prudhoe bat to key west ride, and had the
side stand switch deactivated. they short out quite easily on dirt
roads and stop the bike cold. didn't want to see that while doing a
record run.I had also built up the "foot print" of the side stand to
make it work on dirt roads.

we had stopped at an overlook, and I took off before the col. and
ignored the stand. I think he tried to catch me but the first left
hand turn happened first. nasty high side followed by week in critical
care in west Virginia. pretty much sucked.
