The bolt broke on the threaded portion flush with the inside of the nut.

Mike,
Just to clarify, did your bolt break in the threaded portion or in the non-threaded portion?

I stop drilled a hole in the end of the crack and bought another rear mounting bolt and assembled it. I went with the an OEM bolt and it looks to me like it is a different material from the original. Wish I had a hardness tester to confirm. Anyway, I torqued it to spec and took a ride around the block. Got back and the crack took off 90 degrees near the end of the first crack and looped back around to the front of the case. Just a matter of time for a piece about the size of a quarter to break off when the crack reaches the bolt hole in the case. So either I pull the engine and get it welded up, weld it in the bike, or I part out the bike and look for an ST4S. The grass is always greener, right?
