Hi Nate,

I bought a monster about 10 years and had it for about a month and discovered pieces of the plastic race from the left main bearing in the oil when I changed it. I had to pull the engine and split the cases reassemble new bearings and seals. I know its not that much of problem pulling the engine, its just getting up enough energy to do it! Seems like I have about 2 full squats per day that my back will take, then its off to the Jacuzzi!

I feel your pain sir. I had to make the same decision a few months back: Do I take the time and fix it, or just part the damn thing out. I feel I made the right one. I decided to remove the engine and dissasemble 95% of the stuff on the frame. Took the frame and had it welded. I can't say that your bike is the same as mine, but it must be very similar. It would not take you that long to just simply remove the engine and get it welded. You could also use that time to make any adjustments or mods that you have wanted or ever thought about doing.

I can honestly say I probably put a total of 70+ hours into mine. Granted, I really had nothing better to do with my spare time, I have a garage to myself, and the only thing I had to lose was some of my time, and maybe a few bolts :) I figured if i got it all apart, and tried to weld it, and it couldn't be welded or whatever; I would have had to take it apart to part it out anyways. It cost me 50 bucks to have it welded. I had no other money into the repair except some primer and paint, and a new radiator hose. I've put around 5 or 6 thousand miles on her since then, and I enjoy her more then ever. I don't know too many people that would have attempted this, given my basic knowledge of mechanics, limited tools, and I had almost zero help at all. Every one I know kept telling me I was never going to get it back together and blah blah blah. It can be done, and fairly easily, if you want to.
