If this was a carburettor engine, then I'd immediately suggest 'vapour lock"
(i.e. the fuel had boiled out of the carburettor float chambers).
However, that can't happen with injectors. Nonetheless it does sound
like a fuel/air problem and I see that your engineer found a leak.
Could there stil be a leak? An air leak will be worse when the engine
is hot, due to expansion. Although a lot of work has been done, I'd
wonder whether a compression test has been done on both cylinders when
hot and when were the valve clearances last checked?
