Hi Nick,
Well, I have found the ground lug at the back of the engine works
quite well. We're both talking about the 7 mm drilled hole back by the
breather, correct? On bikes that did not originally use that point
(like the MH900E etc.) I supply a stainless steel hexhead bolt/washer
and the feedback I have received is that the kits works as they
should, the bikes start right up.
That point has a large surface area for good contact and I don't think
there is a better place to use. The newer Ducs like the Hyper/
Multistrada use a point down on the left front of the engine about at
the end of the starter canister but those newer bikes also have
starting issues so they didn't get far with their plan to tap the
negative right off the starter point.
To me it looks like the engineers have become aware of the starting
issues that develop and thought that instead of going through 18-24
inches of aluminum engine cases (60% of the flow of copper) that they
would tap right off the starter area and run it back through a copper
lead. And they also have the solenoid right next to the battery now.
But those steps did not bring a long term solution as I am selling
kits to riders with 2007/2008 bikes.
I actually had a rider buy a kit for his 2010 Hyper as he said it had
already slowed down in starting and he wanted to max his battery life
(and get started quicker).
Thanks,
M./
