I have a piece of aluminum angle stock (90 degree bend). I use it
against the side of the chain from back to front sprocket and align
the side of the chain from sprocket to sprocket to match (it's a real
straight piece of metal).
From then on I only ever unscrew the axle nut 1 full turn and always
focus on turning the rear L/R adjusters exactly the same amount (half
a flat or a full flat of the allen wrench).
If you release the axle nut more than 1 turn you can get the wishbone
effect where you adjust but when the nut is tight again you are now
too tight and have to loosen the adjustment.
I have found that as long as the adjuster bolts are always pulling
then the adjustment stays correct.
But when I used to get things too tight and then have to loosen things
back up then one side would hang a bit and not release etc. and things
could get wacky.
