Re: [DucatiST] chauin stretch-- was Counter shaft sprocket

I have never been happy measuring up and down slack to decide chain tension, especially so with non standard ride height.  When adjusting the chain I disconnect the suspension unit so that I can easily move the swinging arm to the position where the centres of the geabox output shaft, swinging arm pivot and rear wheel spindle centre are all in line.  If the chain tension is then set and checked by running the chain round to check for any tight spots the chain can never become too tight whatever your weight or choice of suspension components.  It is a pain to disconnect the suspension unit to do this but if you have a correctly adjusted chain and run a chain oiler the chain doesn't need attention very often.

Hard to disagree Nick, but as i said ive been pedantic about my chain setup ( i run at least 40mm slack in the centre since i cranked up the rideheight).
I looked thru my files but couldnt find it,i know when i pulled apart the swingarm for a service i deliberately measured the chain slack ALL THRU its motion, and thats of course without the shock, so either im negligent, OR the 40mm means it can NOT bind in its travel.
