I vaguely recall there's a circlip somewhere in the rear wheel bearings setup. Do make sure you remove it! ;-)

Once you've got the bearings off use a Dremmel and make the notch in the spacers bigger (a bit wider and a bit longer) to make your life easier next time.

...and get a bigger hammer.
