Wingnuts are the way to go. Cut a "rubberband" from a bicycle inner tube and then stretch it over the wingnuts as a "locking" system. The inner tube rubberbands last way longer than a regular rubber band.

I did the same. Used locktight on the studs in the mirror base than got metric wingnuts at the local hardware store as they didn't have the cool knurled knobs.

While its been too long ago for me to remember the size, a better alternative is to put studs in the mirror, and get knurled nuts (knuts?) to fit. I did this almost ten years ago with parts furnished from McMaster-Carr. http://www.mcmaster.com If you do a search of old messages you will find some posts about this, maybe even the part numbers.

This is a no-brainer upgrade to your ST.
