I did the same. Used locktight on the studs in the mirror base than got metric wingnuts at the local hardware store as they didn't have the cool knurled knobs.

While its been too long ago for me to remember the size, a better alternative is to put studs in the mirror, and get knurled nuts (knuts?) to fit. I did this almost ten years ago with parts furnished from McMaster-Carr.

This is a no-brainer upgrade to your ST.
