That is exactly my plan!
I need to pull the fairing over the weekend and I wanted to get the fittings on the way home. I will be d*mned if I am going to fight with those bolts ever again. The last time, it took me close on to 90 minutes and I think that I cross threaded one of them.
Lots of places to get SS hardware around here, but they are all closed on the weekend.
Thanks

I did the same. Used locktight on the studs in the mirror base than got metric wingnuts at the local hardware store as they didn't have the cool knurled knobs.

While its been too long ago for me to remember the size, a better alternative is to put studs in the mirror, and get knurled nuts (knuts?) to fit. I did this almost ten years ago with parts furnished from McMaster-Carr. http://www.mcmaster.com If you do a search of old messages you will find some posts about this, maybe even the part numbers.
This is a no-brainer upgrade to your ST.

Does anyone know the screw size for the mirror mount screws on the
(2002) ST? I think it might be M5x1.0 but I would like to check. I need
to get some replacements on my way home from work.
