Yippee!
Went down the Rose Parade route today, after watching a boat load of Brit Iron try and kick start their way into the New Year.
Now waiting for the pyrotechnics to start...

[DucatiST] re: 2010 Indy Moto GP
Ducati puts on quite a show for this and has a hospitality tent at the track.
Bring a registration for a bike and you can also get extra owner freebies such
as coffee, snacks, water and minor goodies. Usually 2 hotels are Ducati club
locations and the last two years they were close to walking distance apart.
Country Inn and Embassy suites. It's about 20 minutes from there to the track
though. At the Country Inn there is a big Ducati dinner one night with food,
beer, prizes and a lot of nice bikes which is run primarily through the
Bevelheads and Pantaheads club lists, but will be advertised on the main owners
club lists too. I can get you direct contact with the organizer for either
hotels or dinner.
Also if you contact the ticket folks directly at Indy and ask for Ducati seating
there is a main point of contact for all reservations if you want seating in the
Ducati grandstands, which is a pretty decent place to watch from. The only
other place I've watched from is turn 7, which was good too.
I've been twice and trailered a bike once and rode once. Getting around without
a car is a bit of a unknown for me, but it is generally very easy to get in and
out of the track area so shouldn't be a problem with a cab. I don't know
anything about public transit.
There is also a big bike event downtown where they block the streets off for
motorcycles only. So a hotel in that area could be fun too. I rode down to it
the first year, it was quite a scene.
Hope that helps a bit

You are in luck. I do the lacrosse games for my son's team and found this one and I edited it down. Enjoy... --- On Wed, 12/29/10, sdoherty84 <sdoherty84@yahoo.com> wrote:

Another one slips away. Hopefully the retreating 365 treated you well,
and its offspring serves you even better.
Resolve to do something unusual this year. Never know how it will turn
out. If you're watching some pyrotechnics tonight, consider that some
accounts point to the origin of gunpowder as an alchemist's search to
build "The Philosopher's Stone," a substance that would turn rusty
metals into pure gold and also serve as an elixir of life, aimed at
promoting physical rejuvenation or possibility immortality. Fountain
of Youth sort of brew. That one kinda went amuck, but a nice try.
Take a risk this year. Stick your finger up "normalcy's" butt.
Remember to wash your hands after, then do something you were afraid
to do last year.
Perhaps piss in a birdbath. Your unique urine may persuade a bird to
not sit in that freezing water, possibly saving his little bird balls
from snapping off. Never know how it will turn out.
If no interesting resolutions scratch at your brain this year, just
resolve to realize some you made in past years. But this year hatch
them. Really.
Happy New Year.

Re: [DucatiST] Battery Tender Junior

If it isn't 13.2 then it was not charging it fully and you lost some
life due it being undercharged while sitting.
If it is much over 13.2 then it is perhaps overcharging with the same
result - lowered lifespan.

The point of the quote was to show that the float type chargers are
intended to be left on all the time.
But this means they have to be working within spec or they give a
false sense of security and/or damage/reduce the lifespan of the
battery.
I have 2 battery tenders I bought back in the late 80s/early 90s and I
think both have dings in the metal cases showing that they've been
dropped.
It would be easy to have a damaged charger and never know it.

Could be both a bad/out of spec charger and the regulator hammering
the battery, ganging up to kill it prematurely.
Best way to check if the charger is working right is to suck down the
battery a ways (leave the lights on for 5 minutes) and then have it
charge it up to the float point.
Remove the charger and check the voltage with a meter, should be right
about 13.2 volts.
If you then run the headlight for 30 seconds and check again you will
have the true charge of the battery, at 100% charge it is usually
between 12.75 and 12.85 depending on type.
Here's the product pitch from a charger maker that claims a 5 step
charge profile (I had only ever heard of 3 steps prior to seeing this
text)
"The Optimate 12 volt battery charger is completely automatic, safe
and simple to use. The 5-stage program features not only constant
current and constant voltage charging to completely and correctly
charge most battery types, but it also has a unique desulfation
circuit that recovers deeply discharged or sulfated batteries. The
Optimate is designed to be left on indefinitely during periods of
battery inactivity without any worry of overcharging. The Optimate is
reverse polarity protected and spark proof and features 5 stages. The
Optimate is the #1 charger sold in Europe and is used by major vehicle
manufactures such as Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki. "
I'll be adding this to my site for batteries that are other than an
Odyssey. The Odyssey require a specific profile and the Odyssey
charger is not suitable for other batteries.
If you have a good brand of AGM battery (and that probably means NOT
made in China) and a properly functioning float charger you should get
between 2 and maybe 5-6 years out of a battery. Odyssey claim that
their battery (when used with their charger) can have from a 2-10 year
lifespan.
HTH,
Happy New Year folks,
