Crappy, light gauge wiring, built to a price. Translation: "Low Bidder". Every manufacturer is guilty of it somewhere. Drives me nuts sometimes.

For what it's worth, my '98 ST2 has just a bit over a volt drop between the positive battery terminal and the other side of its ignition switch.  YMMV.
