[DucatiST] Re: How long can cam belts last?
Re: [DucatiST] Re: How long do cam belts last?
Ted -
If cam sprocket sizes changed (got bigger) it would improve belt longevity, but no idea if that was the case on post 2008 models!

Post 2008 is up to 5 years, but there has been no change in belt manufacture their the same as they were. It's the same for service intervals pre 2008 major service 6000/12000 miles. 2009 7500/15000 on the same model bike. What changed? The sales pitch. I change belts every 2-3 years. Very interesting. I started this post. I emailed my mechanic today ( Ducati certified, etc., etc., nationally recognized, worked on AMA Ducati race bikes and teams… but I'll not name him here), described all of the details on the two bikes, he came back with "5 years, 12,000 miles". I'm taking one bike in this week (he happened to have an opening), and the other 3 years and 3000 miles not to worry.
Anyhow, interesting discussions. I'd love to be that fly on the wall, cataloging belts, miles and age against some objective assessment.
Thanks again,

RE: [DucatiST] GPS
I've been running a Garmin Nuvi 780 on a modified Streetpilot III mount for years. No issues.
I used the mounting plate for the Streetpilot that bolts to the inner handlebar bolts and drilled it for a RAM mount/holder for the 780. Nice and solid and on the edge of the line of sight so not to be a distraction, yet close enough to make looking at it quick and easy.
I use a bluetooth transmitter to send the audio to my BlueAnt intercomm.

Re: [DucatiST] GPS
I've had great luck with the 550, but on the other side of the coin, I've also had great luck with an el cheapo $50 Garmin off fleabay. It's been drenched and shook to death on a number of 2 cylinder shakers. Personally, my next one will be another cheapy with a new map.

[MotorCityFreecycle] Offer: pork fat trimmings (Downriver)
I have perhaps about 3 gallons of pork fat trimmings, from a half-pig
share I bought. It has been stored in my chest freezer and I need the
space. The pig was pastured and locally and humanely raised without antibiotics.
(I can give you more details if you're interested)
I had hoped to feed wild birds, make soap, use it for cooking, etc, but
none of those have panned out for me.
It should be kept frozen until use, of course, so we need to arrange a pick up time.
It is frozen in one block, so if you only want a piece of it, you
may have to bring your own saw...
